Wine Luncheon @ Truffles, Taylor's University

Hello!! its been long since I update the blog.. Been pretty busy lately but luckily have time for some well made lunch by the university..

So, the wine luncheon I went for is actually an event hosted by the lecturers to help educate the students about the knowledge of wines.. For this year, they have an invited guest from the wine industry in Malaysia..
His name is Thomas Ling.. It was fun having him around giving the attendees of the wine luncheon input of wine knowledge and he was kind enough to carefully explained to us about the thing about the grapes of the wine that we are tasting it with the food and how wine drinking is actually getting to know the country through the bottle of wine itself.. Overall it was quite interesting and I could say I had a marvelous time there while having some alcohol in my system rather early of the day.. The price was quite reasonable that was RM15 per person.

So, lets get to the main thing of the day... That would be drinking wine that was paired with the wine that will be tasted today and we are supposed to write our comments about the wine through sight, swirl, smell, sip and savour the taste of the wine..

Firstly, we began with the appetizer for this luncheon would be the chickpea and leek soup.. The soup was rather nice and quite smooth and thick consistency. For this course, it was paired with the Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand. The only thing I would say about this wine is the wine has a light colour and it has a nice taste, abit sourish and according to the speaker, it was a great choice for an apperitif drinks and also could be a dessert wine.. The wine is quite clear and fresh flavour profiles not too over powering for the palate and not too high of acidity.

Then, the 2nd course would be the main.. I had for the main was the grilled beef medallion, asparagus, served with black pepper sauce accompanied with gratin potatoes. For this main course, it was paired with the Taylor's Estate Shiraz, Australia. According to the speaker, he mentioned that the name shiraz is actually a name of a city from Iran. The colour of this red wine is quite deep dark red but its still look quite happy and lively instead of the dull or boring reds that we seen before.. When we had a taste after consuming some of the main, the wine gave a hint of peppery note to the overall dish and also it has quite a high tannin level being that it was quite bitter in taste but luckily it wasnt too bitter for me to enjoy it.. Luckily, I had the beef option of the main because the wine really accentuates the whole dish and its flavour profiles whereas the chicken main course was a let down from the portion sizing and also the taste of the red wine with it.. It was pretty awful that was the feedback from those who are having chicken as the beef substitute.. (Yeay!! felt lucky for the beef choice.. hahaha)..

Finally, we are coming to an end of the luncheon and for dessert we are having Paris Brest for dessert (YES!!!) Love it.. Its actually one of my favourites.. Its actually a choux pastry and it shapes like a donut but less oil as it was baked in the oven and with sprinkled almonds with some cream inside it and also some chocolate sauce.. It look amazing despite the size rather small but lucky they gave us 2 or else i wont be smiling to happily about it.. So for this wonderful dessert, it was finely paired with a dessert wine called the Brown Brothers Special Late Harvested Orange Muscat & Flora. Its quite a special wine as the colour is rather golden in colour and when I was doing the swirling action, it gave out the aroma of honey, some flowery accents to it.. But when we had the chance to sip the wine, I was so surprised that the wine tasted so good with the honey accent being quite dominant and also some citrus and also floral notes.. The amazing thing was that the wine isn't overly sweet.. Its still palatable for us to continue drinking it without stopping as it was so delicious.. Love the overall taste of honey.. The flora in the wine is a crossbred grape type that is available in California..The dessert was also well made and love it when there's a huge dollop of chocolate ganache!!! It tasted heavenly^^

Conclusion: The wine was fantastic but mostly preferred the dessert wine.. Would love to get one and have it
                    for a drink.
